today PIL  in supreme court TO POSTPONE NEET 2020 JEE 2020

The parents association which moved the Supreme Court against the University Grants Commission guidelines, is now planning to file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) demanding postponement of NEET and JEE Main 2020 to December.

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is for medicine and the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main, for engineering. Both exams are scheduled in September; the association wants it postponed to December.

The association is likely to file the PIL today itself. Alakh Alok Srivastava, the advocate representing the association said on social media: “Despite our written request, Education Ministry and NTA have not yet postponed NEET and JEE Exams. Meanwhile, COVID cases are rising alarmingly and students are suffering from severe stress and anxiety. So, we are filing a petition in Supreme Court today for postponement of NEET and JEE.” The NTA is the National Testing Agency which conducts the exams.

NEET 2020 and JEE Main 2020

Earlier, this week, the India Wide Parents Association (IWPA) sent a letter to the Union education minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ demanding postponement of the national level engineering and medicine entrance exams.

The JEE Main 2020 is scheduled to be held between September 1 and 6 and the NEET 2020 for September 13.

The IWPA president Anubha Srivastava Sahai told Careers360: “We are moving Supreme Court to get the JEE and NEET exams postponed.”

Students and parents have been demanding postponement of the examination as the cases of coronavirus pandemic have been increasing several folds.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) had first postponed the JEE Main and NEET examinations to July. JEE Main was scheduled to be held between July 18 and July 23, while NEET was scheduled for July 26. It is expected that around 25 lakh students will be sitting for the two pan-India level exam. More than 15 lakh applied for NEET 2020, and around nine lakh for JEE Main.
